Frequently Asked Questions

  • DEFINITION OF “PEAK DATE”: Any date within four (4) days of one of the following: New years day, Presidents Day, Spring Break (Oregon), Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas day. For Peak dates, we charge a $10 per night surcharge on top of our usual boarding rates.

MINIMUM STAY DURING PEAK DATES: For peak dates, we have a minimum stay requirement. The number of nights depends on which Original Bark location you choose. For Oleson road, the minimum stay is (2) nights, and for the Terwilliger location it is three (3) nights. While we would love to be able to entertain your pup for just one night, we are limited on space and have to prioritize and save space for those who are seeking long term care.

DEPOSITS: Deposits are required for all peak dates and for summer boarding reservations. The required deposit is 25% of your projected boarding total including any additional services requested (hikes, baths, kongs, etc). When making a boarding reservation either online or with one of our staff, you will be required to pay your deposit to hold the reservation.

    DEPOSIT REFUND POLICY:

    • If you cancel a peak date boarding stay seven (7) or more days in advance of your reserved drop off date, you are entitled to a full refund of your deposit.

    • If you cancel a peak date boarding stay six (6) or fewer days in advance of your reserved drop off date, you will forfeit your deposit (extreme situations will be handled on a case by case basis).

    • If you cancel a summer boarding reservation three (3) or more days in advance of your reserved drop off date, you are entitled to a full refund of your deposit.

    • If you cancel a summer boarding reservation two (2) or fewer days in advance of your reserved drop off date, you will forfeit your deposit.

    The reasoning behind this rule:
We book up completely over the holidays. If you cancel with short notice, we won't have adequate time to fill your spot. We hope you understand. Extreme circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

LAST MINUTE CHANGES, OR PICKING UP EARLY DURING PEAK DATES: If you pick up earlier than your anticipated check-out date during a peak date boarding stay, you are still required to pay for the remaining nights of your reservation that fall on peak days.

  • We are always highly vigilant of our littlest daycare members and make sure they are safe at both our locations (and we encourage socialization between all dogs). Our Burlingame location also separates the play groups by size and energy level for your ease of mind. Our small dog area is the perfect place for toy breeds, young puppies and older dogs who want to lie around and get scratched by our staff. The small dog area is typically open Monday through Friday, during our busy daycare hours (9/10a-4p), however on slow days with very few small dogs we reserve the right to keep it closed.

  • All daycare dogs and boarding dogs must pass a temperament evaluation, a process in which we are looking for aggressive tendencies and/or fearful behavior. If your dog is a fighter, a biter, or gets a little too rough during play, we're sorry, but we won't put our other dogs at risk. If your dog is excessively anxious or fearful around strange people or other dogs, this may not be the place for them. We are always excited to help socialize a dog who is still unsure of other dogs or people due to lack of exposure, but bringing a dog into daycare who is genuinely terrified can do more harm than good. During the assessment we will also ask for proof of vaccines from your vet, or alternatively you can upload them into your customer profile during registration.

Required vaccines: Rabies, Distemper, Parvo and Bordetella. Young puppies must complete their third round of puppy shots before attending daycare, but are not required to have their Rabies vaccine until 6 months. Additionally, all dogs must be spayed or neutered by 6 months to play or board at Original Bark. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate dogs in poor or declining health.

  • For dogs in the same family, double and triple occupancy is allowed in the appropriate sized kennel.

  • All boarding dogs will have extra time for play and potty breaks after closing time (6:15pm) until around 7-8pm. Once they are tucked in for the night, they will spend the evening in their kennels until the staff returns in the morning around 6-6:30am. We utilize closed circuit video monitoring and networked smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. In the event of an emergency, these devices will notify the management immediately and we will respond accordingly.

  • Our kennel area is indoor, climate controlled, and dimly lit with soft music playing to help relax our overnight guests.

  • We provide cots, bowls and (if needed) blankets for all of our overnight guests. You are welcome to bring items of comfort from home to make their stay more comfortable if you wish, however the only thing you need to bring is their food, leash and collar.

  • Deposits and minimum stay requirements are imposed during peak dates, and deposits are required for all summer reservations. For those times of year, make your reservations early, as we book up fast.

  • Checkout for boarding guests is 10am, if you are unable to pick up by 10am, you will be charged the appropriate daycare rate for the final day only.

  • Hiking sessions are available Monday through Saturday. No hiking services are available on Sunday at this time.

  • Pickup will be between 8:30am-2:30pm. We will do our best to accommodate your scheduling requests whenever possible, however your flexibility on pickup time is greatly appreciated. Due to increasing traffic and the large service area, our routes change daily and times cannot be guaranteed.

We can pick up your dogs at your home without you present. You will provide us with your consent, and instructions to gain access to your home or yard, and we will take care of the rest.

  • A quick post-hike wipe-down is included on wet and muddy days. If you’d prefer a more thorough wash, baths and full service grooming appointments are available at an additional cost.

  • Dog shuttle drivers and hike leaders are all fully insured and trusted Original Bark employees, who have clean criminal and driving records. Additionally, dogs are secured in individual kennels during transportation.

  • Dog hike payments are due on the day of service. You must store a credit card on file with us to use this service. Credit cards are stored within your customer profile in our customer portal.

  • All dogs must be wearing a quick-release collar with current identification tags. We also recommend a harness (rear or front-clip) or a gentle leader for “pullers”. We have a variety of harnesses should you need one, and our hikers will provide and use their own hiking leashes with safety clip carabiners.

  • We require proof of the following vaccinations: Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, and Rabies. You are required to upload proof of vaccines from your vet within your customer profile We do allow unaltered dogs to join us on hikes, as long as being in tact doesn't affect their behavior in "difficult" ways. However, females in heat are not allowed.

  • Reservations are required.

  • Due to complicated scheduling and planning, If you cancel your hike with less than 24 hours notice, you will still be charged for the hike.

  • We reserve the right to refuse service to dogs we deem unfit for trail hiking for any reason.
